Magistar

This is a story that I started writing several years ago, but never finished....so perhaps we can finish it here...I have a pretty good beginning.......

For three years after the defeat of Zaggath, peace reigned in the kingdom of Magistar. Solmyr was an active ruler, initiating and completing many projects that helped all of the lands inhabitants. Occasionally he even found time to study the arcane arts, which he loved so much. Yet, Solmyr had an empty feeling, of being caught alone in his palace. Of course, he had friends and courtiers, but they could not fill the void he felt in his heart. It was clear to him; he wanted to find a bride.

The ugly, fawning courtesans did not hold any attraction to Solmyr. He wanted a bride who had a talent for mage craft so that they could share in love of each other and the art, all the better. Thus, Solmyr decided to travel throughout his kingdom to search for such a woman.

As the wizard was traveling in the country's northern regions suddenly he felt strong magic around him, trying to bind his very soul and spirit into place. After a great struggle, Solmyr managed to resist the magic. What force was this, he thought. Looking around, he began to understand.

The wind had died down. The trees stood unmoved, not a single leaf so much as waved an inch. Just inside the forest, a deer stood absolutely still, staring at the mage. And in the nearby field, a group of peasants were standing like statues, frozen into whatever task they were performing as the magic manifested. Some how, the land was put into a magical stasis, and by the looks of it, the rest of the country was in no better condition.

Astonished, Solmyr traveled further to the north, at last arriving to the outskirts of the town of Northwatch. Somehow, this town appeared to have escaped the mysterious effects of the stasis, still operating normally. Perhaps the reason was the proximity of the northern wastes, which also apparently were not affected. As Solmyr approached the town, a blinding light shot at him from all around. He could see nothing. He tried to yell but, what he said was swallowed up in this massive light. Five minutes went by and the light started to dim. He could see again. He looked around and 4 figures were now in front of him, arch mages by the look of it. The obvious leader of the 4 stepped out in front and spoke.

"My lord, we are glad to see you are well. Like you, we barely managed to resist this great spell. We offer you our services to discover who or what is behind this great disaster and try to reverse it."

"I gratefully accept. Tell me, who are you?"

"I am Chrestadonseaur Maltraye, call me Chree. I am head of your security in the capitol of Magistar, Darathment."

"How is it that I do not know you if you are head of security in my own kingdom?"

"Well we were in the service of Emperor Zaggath, but now that he is dead, and our great kingdom has been restored, we name you Emperor Solmyr."

"How can you say that this kingdom has been restored when everywhere other than here everybody is frozen solid?"

"I meant, my lord, that with Zaggath dead we will now have peace."

"Well it appears that someone is trying to take away that peace. We must find who is doing this. They must be stopped!"

With that Chree, his mages, and Solmyr continues toward the town…



The five finally arrived at the town and began searching for the inn. The inn would be the best place to hear any rumors that were spreading around.

"Stay outside Chree. I want to talk to these people alone," whispered Solmyr.

"Yes, my lord. Please hurry," responded Chree.

Solmyr pushed the creaky door that lead into the inn. He gazed all around taking in the ancient aroma that hung in the air. He saw who must have been the inn keeper. He walked over to her.

"Hello, I am Solmyr, have you heard any rumors of late?"

"Well, hello Your Majesty," the woman responded, "I must say that I am not surprised to see you here."

"How do you know who I am, the war ended only a week ago?"

"Oh, I am sorry, where are my manners! I am Venstarneve, you may call me Star."

"I am please to meet you Star. How did you come to know who I was, and so quickly?"

"I was part of the war relief effort."

"What? I thought you were all killed before you even reached the battle field."

"All of us were, except me. You see, my father was a magician, a very good one too. He taught me how to create a magic shield around myself, and so I did, and it saved me. I managed to make my way north hoping that the war hadn't reached this far."

"That is quite a story. But, I still need your help with something."

"And what is that Your Majesty?"

"A great spell has been conjured by someone. It has frozen all of the villages around here. How is it that this place is unaffected?"

"I do not know, could it have to do with the magic waters to the north?"

"That is what I thought as well. I really must be going, thank you for all of your help."

"No problem Your Majesty."

Solmyr stepped back outside. The mages were still waiting for him.

"How did it go?" the mages inquired.

"Not as well as I had hoped. I still don't know anything about what is happening here.........
